Gramma’s apple pie for Mom on Mother’s Day. It wasn’t until recently that I was lucky enough to be given Gramma’s recipe, beautifully written in her tall slanted cursive. This is my first time making it, hoping I have come close to the taste Mom remembers and she can close her eyes and taste Gramma’s apple pie as if she was right here and had baked it herself.
Apple Pie
9 cups sliced, tart cooking apples (sliced thinly, that’s how Gramma did it)
1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
1/3 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons butter
Mix in bowl. Arrange in unbaked pie shell and dot with butter.
Brush with 1 egg yolk beaten and 1 tablespoon water.
400˚ oven for 40 minutes or until apples are tender and crust is brown.
Happy Mother’s Day!
